About LINC Home Study
What is LINChsnational.ca? LIINC Home Study is an online English
language program which prepares learners to be effective
communicators in the English language. The Web site is offered through the
Centre for Language Training and Assessment (CLTA), a recognized national and
international leader in the development and delivery of English language
training and assessment.
Why choose LINChsnational.ca?
LIINC Home Study delivers highly relevant and communicative language
learning courses, covering the major language skills of listening, speaking,
reading, writing and comprehension. LINChsnational.ca has vast resources of
skilled professionals in the field of language learning, who are skilled in the
development and delivery of innovative online courses specifically designed for
the language learners.
Registration - Login information
Do I have to be a registered member to use
LINChsnational.ca? Yes! You have to register to become
a member. When you register, you receive a username and password .
How do I register? Please contact any
LINC English Assessment Centre in order to learn more about the requirements for
this and other educational programs.
Can I login as a guest? No, you ca not
login as a guest.
After I register, how do I login?
To login, type in your password and username, and then click on the
Login button.
What do I do if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, click on the Forgot Your Password
link on the Login page. Next, type in your email address and submit it to us. We
will retrieve your password, and email it to you.
I put in my password and it didn't work. What’s
the problem? You have to type in your password exactly as we assigned
it to you. The password is case sensitive. If you fail to login, please contact
the Help Desk.
What does case sensitive mean?
Case sensitive means if your password in lower case, you have to type
in your password in lower case. For instance, blazestar10 and BLAZESTAR10 are
not the same passwords to the system.
What is My Home Page? My home page
is your personalized page on LINChsnational.ca. My home page has Courses that you
can access and links such as My Report Card, My Activity,
My Calendar
and
Newsletters
How do I go to my home page?
If you are not logged in yet: you must type in your username and password,
then click login button. If you are already logged in, click on the link
My Home Page at the left menu.
Courses
Are there any prerequisites for joining online
LINC courses? Yes! You should have a basic knowledge of computers. For
example, you should know how to use a multimedia system, floppy disks, CD ROMs,
the Internet and email services. You should also have access to a computer and
multimedia systems.
How can LINChsnational.ca help me? LINC Home Study communicative language learning
courses which provide instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing
and comprehension. Modules are based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks
Assessment standards and the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
curriculum guidelines.
How often is the Web site updated?
We are constantly updating our Web site. We keep adding new features and
learning materials. Keep checking!
I have just got my Username and Password. I don’t
know how to access the Web site. Please help.
First, you
must login. From your Home Page, check the ‘My Courses’section to see the list of courses available to you. If
you would like to see what each course has to offer,click on the desired
Course (example: Module 4: Family Life ) to view the course
content. The course content provides you with the Course Introduction
and Course Objectives.
To go
back to My Courses, click on the My Home Pagelink.
Usually, there are five to six Lessons/Units under each Course. Click on a Lessons/Units
(example Lesson 1) to see Lesson
Introduuction and Objectives.
Each Lesson/Unit has different Activities like Dialogue/Coffee
Time, Reading, Grammar, Pronunciation, and
Recording/Playback
. Click on one of the Exerciseicon links to do that exercise. After you complete
your exercises, and in many cases, the system will show you the correct answers
automatically. You will get a score; this helps you to monitor your progress.
You have to send your writing
assignments to your teacher. The teacher will correct your writing assignments
and give you feedback.
What if I don’t understand something while
reading? While reading, if you don’t understand a word, double
click on that word and an explanation of the word will pop-up from an online

What is the Daily Digest? The Daily Digest section has different links, offered
to help you improve your English in a simple and engaging way. This section
consists of Word, Quote and Article of the Day, Other Useful
Resources, and

My Calendar
What is My Calendar? My Calendar
reminds you of important dates for your tests and assignments.
How can I use My Calendar?
You can use your Calendar as your agenda to update information periodically
regarding your assignments, tests and so on.
Report Card
What is My Report Card? Your report card
tells you how proficient you are in your reading, writing, listening and
speaking skills.
Who prepares My Report Card?
The system automatically generates your report card.
What information is displayed in My Report
Card? Your report card states your current achievements in your LINC
English studies. It gives you scores in marks and percentages. You can track
your own progress, and work on your weak areas.
Activity
What is My Activity? Your activity
tells you how much time you have spent using the LINC Home Study web
site.
What are the numbers shown on this page?
First, it shows you how
much time you have spent using the web site today and in the last 7, 30,
and 90 days .
Second, it
shows how much time you have spent using Courses (i.e, lessons, activities, and
exercises) on the web site.
Third, it shows you how many exercises you completed
today and in the past 7, 30, and 90 days.
Who prepares My Activity report?
The system automatically generates your activity report.
My Resources
What is My Resources? My Resources
provides online links to other useful and relevant web sites that will help you
in English learning.
Homework/Exercises
What types of exercises does the Web site offer? The Web site offers different types of exercises such as
Match the Column, Multiple Choice, Sorting, True of False, Fill in
the Blanks
and
Writing.
Who will correct my exercises? Who will monitor
my progress? When you do exercises (listening, reading and speaking),
the system automatically corrects your exercises and gives you a score such as
poor/good/excellent. It also generates a report card stating your current
progress. Your teacher corrects your writing assignments and gives you
feedback. The system and your teacher will monitor your
progress.
How will I send my writing assignments to my
teacher? After you finish reading/studying your lesson, click on
the link Exercises of the writing practice section.
Type your writing assignment, and click on the
Save button. Your assignment will be sent to
your teacher’s email address.
Who will correct my homework for me?
Your teacher will correct your writing assignments. You must email your
assignments to your teacher who will correct the assignments and email them
back to you with his/her comments and suggestions.
What if have questions about my assignments? You may contact your teacher if you have concerns about
your assignments.
Pronunciation
I need help with pronunciation. Does
LINChsnational.ca offer pronunciation courses?
We offer
pronunciation practice lessons within each module. You are able
to listen to the vocabulary words, repeat them and record your
voice.
I need help with my pronunciation practice
exercise. What should I do? Our pronunciation practice exercises
are easy to follow. If you have technical difficulties, please contact the Help
Desk.

How do I contact the Help Desk?
You can
also send an email to LINCNDhelp@linchomestudy.ca. We will be happy
to respond to your enquiries.
How can I contact my teacher? When you subscribe to the Web site, a teacher will be
assigned to you. If you have any questions you can contact your instructor by
email.
What do I do if I don’t understand something?
If you don’t understand something, or you need help, you
may contact the Help Desk or your teacher. You can also go to
Web Conference to talk to a live teacher.
What system requirements do I need to use the Web
site? Check our System
Requirements
list to see if your computer meets the minimum system requirements.
I can’t access the Web site properly. Where
can I get help? We appreciate hearing about any
problems you experience while visiting the Web site. Contact the Help Desk for technical support. We will be happy to assist
you.
I have not been able to record my voice. Where
can I get help? Make sure that your microphone is
working and connected properly. If you still have difficulties, contact the Help

I don't hear any sound, what should I do?
Your hardware may be installed incorrectly. Check to see that the soundcard,
speakers or headphones, and cables are connected and in good operating

I can’t play educational games. What’s wrong?
Check if your flash player is installed and working
properly. If you continue to have problems, contact theHelp Desk.
Miscellaneous
I want to find a pen pal to exchange emails in
English. We are constantly updating the Web site. Keep checking the
site for new features.
Do you have a forum where I can post grammar
questions? You can post a grammar question to a live teacher on Web
Conference.
