Recording/Playback

Recording/Playing gives you an opportunity to practice your pronunciation skills. This feature requires both headphones and microphone. To learn more about how to use your headphones and microphone, refer to the Checking Audio and Checking Recording sections of this manual.

How do I complete this activity?

1. Listen to the word

Select a word or phrase from the list. The word and its image will be displayed below the directions box. Click on the Play button in the 'Teacher' section to listen to the teacher's pronunciation. You may listen as many times as you would like by pressing the play button repeatedly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You may change the speed of the teacher's pronunciation by dragging the speed slider to the desired point. A change in the tone of the voice will appear when you select a different speed. To stop the teacher pronunciation, click on the Stop or Pause buttons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Record your pronunciation

To record your pronunciation, click on the Record button (circle) and say the word or phrase into your microphone. When you are finished recording, click on the Stop button. If you would like to hear what you have recorded, click on the Play button. You may use this feature to practice pronunciation as often as you require.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pronunciation Sample

Some activities provide a pronunciation sample for the lesson’s vocabulary words. To hear the sample, click on the Sample button. You may practice pronouncing the sample by recording your own voice.

 

Exercises

To go to a specific exercise, click on the exercise number located at the top right corner of the page. You may choose from a number of different types of exercises such as:   Fill in the Blanks, Listening, Match the Column, Multiple Choice, Sorting, True or False, and Writing.

 

Dictionary

You may search the meaning of a word while learning English on the site. Double-click on the word you would like defined, and the meaning of the word will be displayed inside a popup window. You may also select a word by right-clicking it, and then select  Dictionary from the context menu. You can check the meaning of any word you would like.

Audio Dictionary

You may listen to the pronunciation of a word while working on your lessons. Select a word by right-clicking it, and then select  Audio Dictionary from the context menu.
